Uncharted has a new No. 1! Rising pop/hip-hop star Colette Carr is signed to Interscope's imprint Cherrytree, but she's earned her buzz under the mainstream radar with aggressive online fan engagement. She earned more than 250,000 streaming song plays during the chart week, and her interactive website brings fans into her bedroom for a simulated one-on-one conversation with a video avatar of the singer.
"My fans got my back," she told Billboard Pro in an interview. "I feel like I could put out a country album and they'd still support it."
Moving up six spots to No. 18 is Otenki, the Houston alt-rock band that was recently voted the Southwest region finalist in Billboard's Battle of the Bands. Otenki has played both the Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour and the Vans Warped Tour, and will drive to Las Vegas next month to compete for a chance to play at the Billboard Music Awards.
New on the chart this week at No. 23 is Blind Fury, the South Carolina rapper who recently won BET's 106 & Park freestyle competition. Thanks to that and collaborations with artists like Timbaland, the MC earned more than 17,000 Twitter followers and 8,000 Facebook friends during the chart week. Blind Fury was born blind, and first gained a national presence in 2003 with a live MC battle appearance on MTV.
Re-entering at No. 26 after slipping off the chart is Bali-based punk outfitSuperman is Dead. Together for 15 years, the band is signed to Sony Indonesia and have amassed more than two million Facebook fans, 21,000 of them during the chart week. German electronic artist Marek Hemmann jumped a whopping 14 spots from No. 44 last week to No. 30 this week, thanks to the release of new track "Pictures" and tens of thousands of plays on Last.fm and Soundcloud.
